I truly believe that self-confidence is key in everything you do in life. How is anyone going to believe in your capabilities, if you do not believe in them yourself?
In numerous instances especially in my career, life has taught me that in order to get to where I want to be I must first have faith in myself. Going on job interviews, I would mostly get call backs when I would walk in feeling confident about myself. However, whenever I had the slightest doubt thats when I would never hear back from a company.
When I found out I was pregnant, I began doing research and borrowing books from the library to educate myself on pregnancy, labor, breastfeeding, and all things baby. Going into labor I felt calm and ready. By educating myself, I became fearless and confident in what I was about to go through. During my entire labor, I felt joy and excitement but, never fear.
As mothers and parents in general, daily we are tested with this idea of self power. The duty of being a parent is a difficult learning process in which you learn as you go. You are never absolutely sure about what is the right thing to do and there always seems to be room for self-doubt. However, as Alice Walker reminds us, only you can obstruct your own POWER.
