My daughter inherited a beautiful combination of my super tight, often dry curly hair and her daddy's "pin" straight, silky hair. I recently did some research to find out what her exact hair type is. She has type 3A curly hair which is defined by loose, springy, definite S-shaped curls. The curls are usually well defined, smooth, shiny, and bouncy with fine to medium texture. However, they are delicate due to the fact that they can easily loose their shape. There have been many times where I style her hair in a certain way without leaving her natural curls loose and once I release her hair ties, her hair is wavy and no longer curly.
In order to enhance her natural curls and maintain it's shiny and smooth texture, I have been using specific products when washing and styling as well as essential oils which have been proving to work well for her.
SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER & DETANGLER:
This "Cantu Care For Kids" set I purchased from Amazon and is still available for purchase. Before I started using these products on my daughter's hair, I was using my own shampoo and conditioner. Since then, I have realized what a huge mistake I had been making. It wasn't until a few months ago (to be exact, it wasn't until the pandemic hit, that I had all the extra time to actually think about all the things I had never considered before) that I decided to look for a shampoo and conditioner that would be better suited for her hair type. I realized that not only is my hair so different from hers but, I have a bunch of other issues that I am working to resolve with my hair such as, hair thinning which don't apply to her at all. Although, the shampoo I use for my own hair, probably won't cause her hair any real damage, I feel it is best I use products that have the nutrients necessary to enhance her exact hair type. Prior to purchasing this set, I had heard a lot of great things about the Cantu brand from other friends and family who also have curly hair. I'm glad I decided to try this out because it has really shown great results with my daughter's hair. I love the detangler so much that I often use it on my own hair as well.
I also want to recommend the "Kinky-Curly Knot Today" Leave-In Conditioner Detangler. I've used this on my daughter's hair since she was months old and it has also worked great for styling.
DEEP CONDITIONING HAIR MASK:
If you didn't already know, I love shopping at Trader Joe's. Not only are their products AMAZING, the prices are unbeatable for the quality you get. The only down side right now is the inevitable line you have to stand in before going in, due to the pandemic restrictions. However, there's no other store I would gladly wait on a line for, than this one! It's totally worth it to me! One day, as I was doing my normal groceries run, I found this sheabutter and coconut oil hair mask and decided to try it. Anything with sheabutter, coconut oil, and vitamin E is a definite must try when it comes to hair. I have been using this on my daughter's hair immediately after washing and letting it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing it out. It leaves her hair feeling soft and smooth. I have also been using it on my hair not only after washing but also in between days when I don't wash because I need the extra moisture for my dry hair. I definitely recommend giving this hair mask a try, if you're also in need of something that will lock in moisture and add smoothness to your hair.
ALL NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS:
Ever since my daughter began to grow in a full head of hair, I've been using a mixture of each of these natural oils after washing and conditioning. Usually, I take a few drops of each in the palm of my hand, massage it well into her scalp for about a minute or two, and then I comb it through the rest of her hair. I do not rinse it out, I just leave it in her hair. Vitamin E oil is known for it's great ability to promote hair growth and prevent breakage or split ends. Jojoba oil is a natural scalp moisturizer. It is known for it's ability to strengthen and thicken the hair while, preventing hair loss. Hence, why jojoba oil is something I always use on my hair constantly. Coconut oil also has similar benefits to jojoba oil, acting as a natural moisturizer and maintains overall scalp health. Using these three oils together you can guarantee, hair that is lustrous, shiny, and smooth.
If you or your children have the same hair type as my daughter and you would like to share some tips that I have not mentioned, please do leave a comment with any products you recommend I try. Also, check out my DIY Deep Hair Mask recipe for post-baby rich and healthy hair...
